Milky Way Reflections at Seealpsee
2025, Seealpsee, Switzerland
This photograph comes with a small story: I had planned it a couple of weeks in advance. Over the past week, I kept monitoring the weather and, even though the chances of clear skies were only about 50/50, I decided to go for it before the arrival of autumn. After preparing all my gear (charging batteries, storage, and everything else) I set off by car, only to realize halfway there that I had forgotten one small item: my camera... Fortunately, thanks to Viviane, I was able to borrow a Nikon D3400 with its kit lens near Zurich, which still allowed me to reach the location in time for the hike to the spot. The sturdy tripod and a well-calibrated star tracker helped make the capture possible. However, with the long focal length of the borrowed setup, covering the entire sky as a panorama took longer than expected, and by then some clouds had already started to move in. Even though the result is far from what I initially envisioned, this experience showed me that, with some persistence (and a bit of improvisation), an entry-level camera and lens can still deliver usable results
